WALLGATE SANITARYWARE FOR UK'S NEWEST PRISON BUILD
Wallgate to provide the sanitaryware and control systems for the newest prison at Featherstone.
Wallgate has been appointed to provide the sanitaryware and control systems for the new Featherstone prison currently being built north of Wolverhampton by Kier. The project is due to be completed during the summer of 2012 and will incorporate 3 480-cell house blocks, a sports hall and comprehensive medical facilities
Working with Balfour Beatty Engineering Services and WSP Group Wallgate has designed bespoke WC pans to fit with the angle of the walls and sloping floors that will create a wet room area in more than 1500 cells within the new build. These new pans will incorporate WRAS-approved 4.5litre flush to ensure maximum water conservation.
Wallgate will be supplying NOM's Safer Cell-Approved sanitaryware. These will be controlled by Wallgate's innovative electronic WDC400 controller which will be locally networked to control not just the WCs, basins and showers but also the ring main electrics and lights within each cell. This system is capable of being linked into the prison-wide SMS system.
"We are looking forward to being part of such an innovative and sustainable project and are already talking with our specialist solid surface tool-makers to begin production as soon as possible and the first items will be ready for supply late summer" commented Charles Drew, Wallgate's Project Manager.
